In the light of the moon, a little egg lay on a leaf. One Sunday morning the warm sun came up and - pop! - out of the egg came a tiny and very hungry caterpillar.
You know what happened next, right? He was hungry and he started to look for some food. He ate through one apple, two pears, three plums...
But he was still hungry. Four strawberries... still hungry!
Five oranges... still hungry!
Finally he hit the jackpot! He ate through one piece of chocolate cake, one ice-cream cone, one pickle, one slice of Swiss cheese, one salami...
...one lollipop, one piece of cherry pie, one sausage, one cupcake (mmm!), and one slice of watermelon.
That night (you guessed it!) he had a stomachache. And who wouldn't? The good news is that the caterpillar finally finds some caterpillar food - one nice green leaf. And then he does what caterpillars do best - he becomes a beautiful butterfly. Thanks, Eric Carle, for one of the best children's stories ever.
