Manicure Party

Who doesn't love a little pampering on their birthday?  I know my own idea of heaven is soaking my feet in a bubbly, warm pedicure tub.  I made this giant bottle of teal nail polish for a fun girlie birthday celebration at the salon.  My favorite part was the sugar nail file - the edible glitter made the surface look just like a real file!

The polish bottle was cake and the cap was rice krispie treats - all covered in fondant.  The 10" round bottom cake was covered in buttercream to achieve the cotton ball look.

Only in New York

This cake is as close to NYC as you can be while still standing in Raleigh, NC - and that was the theme of Gracie's birthday celebration!  Her chocolate fudge cake was surrounded by the city skyline and speeding taxi cabs, decorated with posters from her favorite Broadway shows and famous street signs, and topped with a few New York icons - a Coney dog, a slice of Junior's cheesecake, a shopping bag from Bloomingdale's and a box from Tiffany's.  Can't you almost hear Liza Minnelli singing?  "Start spreading the news..."

Preppy Whales

Cute green whales and a sparkly pink 8 create a fun cake for a pool party.  The whale pattern was based on a graphic design that the birthday girl's mom sent me.  My favorite part of this cake was the pool blue water and edible bubbles.  The sugar water was just like real water - you can see the reflections on the cake from the flash on my camera.  Yummy chocolate fudge cupcakes accompanied the chocolate cake with raspberry buttercream filling for all the kids to enjoy poolside.
